Multi-factor Authentication (MFA)

With all of our online use and multiple online accounts, protection is important. Just think about all of the personal information and data you store and access online. Keeping that data safe should be your top priority and sometimes having a strong password isn’t enough. Which is why we strongly suggest the use of multi-factor authentication.

What is Multi-Factor Authentication?

Multi-factor Authentication acts as an extra layer of security to your web accounts. Multi-factor authentication (MFA) and two-factor authentication (2FA) are both ways to verify a user’s identity beyond just typing in a user name and password. 2FA always utilizes two factors to verify the user’s identity. Where MFA could involve two of the factors or it could involve all three.

The different types of multi-factor authentication are:

  • Something You Know: Password/passphrase or pin
  • Something You Have: Security Token or App, Verification text/call/email, or smart card.
  • Something You Are: Fingerprint, facial recognition, or voice recognition.

Why Is This Important To Have?

We are constantly putting our personal information and credit card numbers on websites and accounts. Having that extra step that may seem like an inconvenience right now, might end up saving you a lot of time and money in the long run.
